Ecological aspects
Wood is a renewable raw material. In Germany there is a priciple
of sustainable forestry economy, ie more trees are planted than
are cut down. Therefore there is enough wood available to sustain
the construction, furniture, paper and printing industries as well as
energy supply systems and other wood-based industrial sectors.
The use of wood is environmentally friendly, as its industrial
processing is comparatively low-energy and environmentally
benign. Wood can be used down to the very last chip, so to
speak, and wooden products are often used over and over
again.Ultimate disposal is also generally environmentally
benign and low-energy.
Wood is a healthy natural material which ought to be utilised
much more in many industrial sectors than it is at the present.
